How Employment Applications Affect Background Checks

Complimentary Webinar - 1 Hour

Employers should give careful consideration to the questions used in their employment applications, because often the application itself has a direct affect on the outcome of background screening.

How Employment Applications Affect Background Checks

Topics to be discussed include:

  • What information is used to perform a background check?
  • Is it appropriate to ask about arrest or conviction records?
  • Are questions regarding  physical traits, disabilities, age/date of birth, garnishment history, credit history, citizenship and drug abuse history reasonable questions to ask an applicant?
  • What questions violate the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)?

By participating in our webinar, you will learn all you need to know about the necessary Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) disclosure documents and other handout(s) required in specific states. We will also discuss common misconceptions related to verifying applicants’ employment and education history.

Additionally, we will review the use of “generic” employment applications found at stationary supply stores, and discuss why these types of “boiler plate” applications shouldn’t be used.
